About our scholar in-residence
Rabbi Chaim Hanoka was born in 1966 in State College PA. He is the eldest child from a family of five born to a prominent physicist (father) and lifelong Educator (mother). In 1984 after graduating high school in Brookline, MA. , he continued his education at a rabbinical college, completing his Rabbinical Ordination in 1988 at the age of 22.
In 1989 He continued with more advanced studies at the Central Chabad Rabbinical College in Brooklyn NY earning an advanced degree in Jewish Law.
Rabbi Hanoka made both the Dean’s list at his rabbinical college as well as earning a spot in the “who’s who in American colleges etc.”
Having traveled extensively throughout his college years providing outreach assistance, Holiday programs, adult education and more, he was a natural fit to become an Emissary of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
In 1992 Rabbi Hanoka, his wife Chani and baby moved from NY to West Hollywood, CA working as the Youth Director at the Chabad Russian Center.
Eager to start his own “Franchise”, in 1995 the “pioneering” Rabbi Hanoka and family moved to Pasadena, CA opening Chabad of Pasadena -serving the Greater San Gabriel Valley.
What began in the Living room of their rented house with barely a handful of people moved on to a storefront location, and in 1999 Chabad purchased their current property and center.
Over the last 18 years Chabad of Pasadena has blossomed into a flourishing community, with multifaceted religious and social programs.
As a gifted orator with a healthy sense of humor, Rabbi Hanoka is much in demand as a public speaker and teacher around the globe.
Rabbi Chaim Hanoka, wife Chani and family currently reside in Pasadena .
